Supporting Transracial Adoption
01
Yes, it’s about love…
Adoption builds families and gives our kids a loving home and lifelong bonds with parents and siblings.
02
But it is also about race…
Race is ever-present in a transracial family with white parents and kids of color, but so is racism, stereotype and prejudice outside the home.
03
And it begins with trauma…
Even though they may not talk about it, adopted children experience the trauma of loss of family, culture, and heritage.
04
As an adopted child…
Transracially adopted children can never “hide” their adoption and face questions of loss, difference, and where they belong early in life.
05
A racially-aware teenager…
Typically growing up in white communities, transracially adopted adolescents and teenagers develop their racial identity in isolation.
06
A fully-aware adult…
As an adult, transracial adoptees work to integrate trauma, identity, and race while balancing adoptive family and birth family relations.

Serving the Adoption Community
This camp was a life changing experience for each member of my family. We learned so much about compassionate conversation and we felt like that surrounded the atmosphere of camp. We really can’t say enough about how wonderful this camp was for our whole family.

Transracial Adoption Mother
Spending time with individuals and families like ours was priceless. Meeting new people and sharing the common experience of adoption was great. The most important thing was that our daughter could be with other children who have lived the same things she is living. The mentors were great and the interactions they had with our daughter strengthened her.

Thanks to all the mentors and presenters – you were invaluable to both adults and kids. We are still talking about our Domino experience and looking forward to next years event!
